Why are hybrid cars not available in India ?

Today I saw a news about hybrid car made by Toyota in New Indian Express.The news says that they have launched this car long time back and have sold over 1 million .Why dont they show up in India ?

Hybrid vehicles from several manufacturers will enter the Indian market in 2008.

Both Honda Siel Cars India and homegrown Mahindra & Mahindra have indicated that they will make their hybrid vehicles commercial by next year. Other auto makers, such as Toyota and Ford, are also exploring the market for hybrid vehicles in the country.

Our Climate opposes it

I thing our climate is not that suited for Hybrid Cards, The excessive humidity, heat and rain are not the climate they were designed for. But surely new models to cater the Indian market will be coming soon.
