What is the difference between powercut and load shedding ?

Can you clarify this doubt.I just wanted to know the basic difference between the terms power cut and load shedding in terms of electricity.Are they same or different ?

Power cut occurs due to some faults in the electric line may be due to some short circuits or in case of some accidents that may damage the electric post or something like that....i.e its involuntary!
Load Shedding is usually done demand increases tremendously and supply is unable to cope up with it.Its what happening in case of kerala!! i.e due to shortage of electricity,they are putting the power off..so its something voluntary....

Load shedding is periodic denial of electricity for compensating the gap between high demand and low availability.
This occurs on a periodic basis.The schedule varies according to places.
In Kerala its for half an hour.
