Our mobile phone needs a battery.Then why dont land phone need a battery?

hey friends this is an interesting question..all of u might be using mobile phones. as well as land phones. but land phones dosent need a battery.. have you ever thought about this?? do you know the answer??  if yes reply for it..

Our land phones are wired connection(Standard 2-wire copper line).It had a very low power electricity running through it,for the voice and data transfer.Thus,a simple land phone doesn't require battery,there are land phones which has additional functionality like "Caller listing",they come up with adapter for battery charge.
Taking the case of mobiles,they have lot of functionality like transmitting data,display screen, ring tones and other stuffs.So they essentially require battery.

Can we tap that electricity for any other purpose?

Hi, seeing your answer I have a doubt. Can we use this low power electricity for any other purpose? like to power a calling alarm or even a PC(pc require only 12Volts). Is there any way to use it through means of any adapters or something?

I don't think that idea would work.I think you can just use it to light up an LED.But as soon as phone call comes up, it will go off i think.Anyway I'm sure that,there is electricity in that, as i have a got a small shock while making a parallel connection for my phone.

I too had the same feeling until I stumbled upon these resources. These websites were discussing about 16 LEDS ELECTRICITY FREE LAMP USING PHONE LINES and various gadgets powered just by the telephone line.
Please have caution because am not sure if they are authentic.
