Hi I use a credit card, they had told in the begining that I will get a credit period of 55 days. But they are charging me interest for the same period! How can I know about the hidden charges? Are these guys cheating me? or Am I missing something about the credit card billing policy?
Asking other people is the best option. You can do a wide research over internet. You can use this site : mouth shut.com to get opinion of large number of people.
Never ever believe in the words of people who sell you credit cards. They tend to hide many facts.
When I applied for the credit card many told me tat don't take it, it is a trap. You will loose a lot of money through interest... So I went and talked to a brach manager one day. He explained to me the whole process and then I understood why these people were too afraid of the term credit card!
I have been using a credit card since 3 months. Have made transactions of over Rs 30000. Still now not a single paise I have paid as interest.
Did any one of you know that the credit period you get decides on the date you do the purchase? Well Yes, I'll give an example
Say my bill gets generated on 18th of every month, my bill due date is 7th of the next month.
*) Suppose i buy goods worth Rs 2500 on 17th of Jan(Before bill generation date), ill have to pay that amount on the coming bill due date ie. 7th of Feb. (My credit period is only 20 days)
*) Suppose the same transaction was on the 19th of Jan, ill have to pay that amount only on 7th of March!!! (My credit perios becomes around 50 days!!)
This is what makes the difference. A gap of 2 days gives you more than 30 days of credit period. So plan your purchases.
There's no doubt they do.
It's bad enough that there is the stuff in the "small print" - but then there are the things that not only are difficult for the average person to understand, they are next to impossible for *anyone* to understand.
For example I defy anyone to explain exactly how one can determine what the foreign exchange rate is when they use their MasterCard overseas... and they pay in a foreign currency... what is the charge going to be exactly in American dollars?
Not to mention that credit card providers can change terms for you with just 15 days notice, and your only options are to accept or close the card.
I recently came to know that they charge extra money for overseas credit card transaction too!
You are not missing something only. You are missing many thing. These credit card companies keep on changing their TOS frequently. It is better to visit the website of respective card and read their TOS and fee structure etc. I keep myself aware of such things by visitng the respective website of the Credit card. you can also do that way. This way we can keep our self updated and more secured also while using the credit card.
I am using ICICI credit card and it clearly says 3.5% interest will be charged for interneational transactions. I think people should have a look at its interest struction before falling prey.
